Busy Few Days |
||
|
The last few days have proved to be really busy with keeping our highways safe. Due to the recent high winds and storms, debris, trees and power lines have fallen down onto the roads, paths and public areas. Our local officers have been keeping the roads flowing by managing traffic, clearing debris away where possible and leasing with local authorities Highways teams as well as electric and utilities companies to remove trees and make safe and clear any fallen cables.
Thank you to our officers and all of the emergency and partner agencies working in difficult conditions to support our communities.
If you are heading out, please take extra care:
Watch out for fallen trees and debris: Hazards may be hidden around bends or in standing water
Stay well clear of fallen power lines, never approach or attempt to move them. Treat all fallen cables as live and report them to the appropriate emergency service or network operator.
Never drive through flood water, it can be deeper and faster flowing than it appears.
Slow down and leave plenty of space, wet roads, strong winds, and reduced visibility can make driving extra dangerous. Take extra care around exposed routes and large vehicles.
Respect road closures and follow diversion signs. Don't drive around barriers or enter blocked roads. Conditions may be unsafe beyond the closure.
Check your journey before setting off. Look for road closures, travel updates and weather warnings and consider if the journey is necessary.
Pedestrians and cyclists should also take care, look out for debris, avoid flooded paths, and jeep well away from damaged trees and overhead cables.
If you encounter an immediate danger to life, call 999. For non emergency hazards report them to the appropriate local authority or utility provider.
Your safety matters, please take your time, stay alert and look out for one another as we continue to deal with the effects of the recent weather.
